Chornobyl Zone

The Chornobyl accident occurred on April 26, 1986 at approximately 1:24 a.m., during the design test of turbine generator No. 8 at Power Unit No. 4. The town of Pripyat is located on the banks of the Pripyat River 3 km from the Chornobyl NPP. Prior to the Chernobyl disaster, 47,500 people lived in the town, but now there is no permanent population due to the high level of radiation.
